Pension Office conducted an interactive financial literacy session titled “Secure Tomorrow: Understanding Personal Finances & Planning Ahead” for the students of the Maldives National University (MNU).
The session, held on the 29th of October 2026, at the MNU Central Administration, aimed to equip young adults with practical financial knowledge and skills to help them make informed decisions, manage their personal finances and plan for the future.
Designed for students preparing to enter the workforce or taking their first steps in their careers, the programme covered key areas of financial literacy, including financial goal setting, budgeting, managing debt, saving, investing, and retirement planning.
Participants were introduced to SMART financial goals and practical approaches to budgeting and managing everyday expenses. The session also explored credit and debt, helping students understand how interest works and the importance of responsible borrowing.
The programme further explored the fundamentals of investing, highlighting investment opportunities available in the Maldives, the differences between saving and investing, and how compound returns can help grow savings over time.
Retirement planning was another key focus of the session, with participants introduced to the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme (MRPS) and the importance of developing consistent saving habits early in their working lives.
Through interactive discussions and practical activities, participants were encouraged to reflect on their financial habits and consider how the decisions they make today can influence their financial wellbeing in the future.
Initiatives such as Secure Tomorrow are part of Pension Office's continued efforts to strengthen financial literacy among young people, encourage informed financial decision-making and promote the importance of planning ahead for retirement.
